TL;DR Our Persephone collection will be on hold with a new release date to be determined, and we think you’re going to love our upcoming DIY perfume kit, slated for pre-orders October 17
Two fall perfume releases, both alike in dignity, in fair Greensboro, where we make our scene.
Picture this: you’re a scrappy, young indie perfumer -- well, you’re an indie perfumer -- with nothing but a dream and a disability that has you perpetually underestimating (a) how much work something will be, (b) impulsively taking on projects, and (3) running out of energy.
It’s the long, hot summer and you are hot to go for fall. You plan to create a new fall collection based on the myth of Persephone *and* the dream project you’ve had in mind for years, a diy kit. The Persephone collection is fascinating to work on and it’s what folks asked for. The diy kit will give fellow perfume lovers the chance to make their own perfume with a set of oils and tools; it’s a lot like the kit that got you started years ago, but with a fun, bookish twist.
The summer days are long, and yet they slip away so quickly. Time is running out to make them both, and to make them really well (is there any other way to make things?). You slowly realize, an important choice* is yet again before you. This is not the first time your brain and body have not aligned on what’s possible within the limits of the time space continuum we are forced (at times) to live within.
So…
You could choose to make both releases. In which case one of two things would happen (1) the rest of the Poesie normally delightful team would grumble, press on as best they could but mistakes, grumpiness, and possible mutiny would ensue or (2) the rest of the Poesie team would leave for lunch without you, never to return.
Or…
You could choose to push back the Persephone collection to some unknown future date and focus on the DIY box. This path ends in the Poesie team toasting a fabulous product release that everyone feels excited about. There’s champagne, Chappell Roan is playing and abundant food and laughter.
*The previous version of this post included the phrase “Sophie’s choice” to describe the decision regarding which fall release we would be offering, and if you’re familiar with the phrase, it is *not* appropriate to describe a perfume release. (It refers to the novel, Sophie’s Choice by William Styron, and the subsequent movie starring Meryl Streep, both of which tell the story of a mother faced with a tragic, inhumane choice while imprisoned in Auschwitz.)
I am so very sorry if seeing that phrase used casually about a perfume release caused you pain. I have edited the post to remove the phrase, but that doesn’t undo putting it out there. Words matter. Please accept my sincere apology for the harm they caused.
